iPod touch OS 3.0 Free Upgrade

The new iPhone OS 3.0 just launched yesterday and is FREE for all iPhone users. Not so for iPod touches :( . It costs us $10 to upgrade, just like when OS 2.0 came out. So I whipped out my credit card and……
….realized I never had one. Luckily Apple did it again. For some reason the OS 3.0 for iPod touch was ‘leaked’ on the Apple website and was downloadable for free. It was taken down after a moment, and during that time I was out with my friends watching Terminator Salvation and [SYSTEM: swearing and ranting removed... //resuming topic] missed the opportunity :( .
But some lucky people was able to download it and upload it on the net. This happened when the OS 2.0 came out as well. I managed to download a copy of the OS 3.0 only to find out it was…well, weird (it was a .zip file containing some .dmg’s…I’m clueless). So that was 231 MB waste of Maxis bandwidth. I later found a link to download DIRECTLY to the Apple server, skipping the paying part. Cool :) . Also I made sure this was the exact copy of the $10 one, build 7A341. Another 231 MB later:
Restoring my old 2.2.1 to the new 3.0 version.
As usual, everything worked flawlessly. A few minutes later:
As I’m writing this, iTunes is doing its work transferring all my songs back to my iPod. No one is complaining about the new OS so I guess everything should be fine, so no need for a review. Here are the links for the OS 3.0 if you want to download yours, for iPod touch 1st Gen and iPod touch 2nd Gen. iPhone owners no need lah, dah free dah.
Jailbreaking from the Dev Team is ready but not released yet. Look out!

Oh it’s done. Flawless :)

UPDATE #1:

Seems that the direct download link I used does not work anymore. I’m guessing Apple blocked it or changed it (that’s the reason I tried to find it as early as possible). For iPod touch 2G users, a kind reader provided me a link for the 3.0 firmware, so just click here okay seems like this link brings you to download the ‘weird’ version (the one with the .dmg’s I was talking about) so sad to say, I’m out of sources :P . If you found any other alternatives, do leave a link in the comments for the other readers k? As for iPod touch 1st Gen, I don’t mind uploading my .ipsw but I have really slow internet connection hehe. Anyway, all the best!

UPDATE #2

The previous link I gave you did work for some so you can try your luck. However, as reported by a number of readers the download speed will be very slow. Here’s a torrent link, hopefully you’ll have better luck with that. Both links were given by my readers, so if you have any other alternatives do email me at jemomoz@gmail.com so more people will get to fully utilize the beloved iPod touch :) . Thanks for the support!

UPDATE #3

And finally, here’s a another link. It has other firmwares for different iPods as well. Big thanks to Alex for sharing :)
